Today www.noodlies.com has named Sydney’s best Vietnamese noodle restaurant, as voted by food fanatics from across the city in an extensive online poll conducted by the foodie site.
Cabramatta’s Pho Tau Bay restaurant was given the title of Sydney’s Best Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) 2010, from a list of more than 50 pho restaurants nominated by the general public, across 29 Sydney suburbs.
Pho is rice noodles in a beef soup stock topped with onion and spring onions. Popular variations include chicken and vegetarian. Sides include basil, bean sprouts, chilli and a slice of lemon or lime. Hoisin sauce, fish sauce, and sometimes sugar are added to taste at the table.
“Noodlies.com has put pho on the culinary map and for 2010 that map starts in Cabramatta at Pho Tau Bay,” said noodlies.com founder and blogger Thang Ngo.
“More than 200 avid noodle fans voted on noodlies, so the recommendations revealed in the poll are from people who really do know what they’re eating!”
The noodlies poll also found taste and cleanliness were the two most important factors in choosing a restaurant, while location and variety of dishes were less important.
noodlies online Pho poll ran from 4 August 2010 – 9 September 2010, catching the attention of foodies in a number of ways: allowed people to nominate their favourite Pho restaurant in any Sydney suburb or city location allowed visitors to nominate the things they look for in a good restaurant.
Pho restaurants across Sydney’s suburbs all got involved in the blog, displaying posters that pointed to the online poll. And Twitter and Facebook, plus Noodlies own subscriber newsletter all created intense conversation and debate about Pho among foodies.
The poll was conducted in conjunction with News Limited Cumberland Community Newspapers, Allen & Unwin and GoTalk Telecommunications to enhance the credibility of Noodlies.com.
noodlies was born in October 2009 after blogger and passionate foodie Thang Ngo noticed a distinct lack of online dialogue about Sydney restaurants located outside the CBD.
It has grown to be a popular Sydney online destination, serving up daily portions of the exciting and culturally diverse flavours of south western Sydney for foodies on a budget. Focusing on food in culturally diverse south western Sydney, the blog features restaurant reviews and best kept secrets about the best, most authentic and most affordable ethnic food Sydneysiders can access.
noodlies is currently 20th most popular Sydney food blog according to international foodie website, Urbanspoon.
