Police are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a woman at Minto, in Sydney’s south-west.
Police from the Macquarie Fields Local Area Command were called to the home of a 24-year-old woman last night following the reported assault.
The woman has told investigators she struck up a friendship with a man via a popular global social networking site but had no interest in continuing the brief relationship.
She alleges the man visited her on the evening of Monday 19 July and she allowed him to stay overnight in the lounge room of her home.
Around 1am yesterday, she alleges the man entered her bedroom and sexually assaulted her.
A crime scene was established at the alleged victim’s home and investigations by Macquarie Fields detectives are continuing.
Police are reminding all internet users to show extreme caution when befriending people via social networking sites and report any criminal activity to their nearest police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police warn people not to give out personal information online or meet strangers in a environment where you are at risk like your home or in a park.
