Parklea Hungry Jacks Manager arrested over job bribes

Between May 2008 and February this year, the man arrested was employed as the manager of a Hungry Jacks restaurant at Parklea, in Sydney’s west. In his role he was responsible for the hiring and firing staff and it is alleged he used his position to extract cash from people desperate to get a job with fast food chain.
It will be alleged that the manager received more than $20,000 in cash payments allegedly demanded from people who sought part-time work as cleaners or restaurant workers at the Hungry Jack's restaurant.
All fifteen of the victims identified in this investigation are Indian Nationals.
At 7am today Quakers Hill detectives attended a home in Woodcroft, in Sydney’s west, and arrested a 47-year-old man.
He was taken to Quakers Hill Police Station where he has been charged with 14 counts of receive corrupt reward.
Quakers Hill LAC Commander, Superintendent Simon Hardman, said the investigation so far had revealed only one alleged offender was involved, however appealed for anyone else with any similar complaint to come forward.
“To date detectives have received 15 complaints from people who allegedly made large cash payments to the store manager in order to secure a job,” Supt Hardman said.
“In a number of the cases it is alleged the victims received little or no work even after handing over the money.
“That manager is no longer employed by the store however it is possible there may be other people, not necessarily Indian nationals, who may have been similarly approached to make these sorts of payments.
“We treat all complaints seriously and I would encourage anyone who has knowledge of this or any similar matter to contact police.”
Supt Hardman commended the owner of the Hungry Jacks Parklea outlet for his actions in reporting the matter to police.
“I applaud the owner who first brought the complaints to our attention and I also wish to publicly acknowledge the assistance and full co-operation provided in this investigation,” he said.

He was my boss and i always wondered why he always employed poor-english-speaking indians. everytime i asked him why he did so he would reply 'Stop, being racist!' and if people were talking about pay and interviews he would interrupt and tell us to get back to work.
